Chris Allaun
Chris Allaun has been studying and practicing paganism and witchcraft for over 30 years. He is an ordained minister and one of the founders of the Queer pagan tradition The Fellowship of the Phoenix. He is also an initiate of Traditional Witchcraft and the OTO. Chris received his Master of Divinity at the Chicago Theological Seminary in 2023. He is the author of several books such as Whispers from the Coven and The Black Book of Johnathan Knotbristle. He teaches classes on witchcraft, spirit working, necromancy, and energy healing.
The Black Book of Johnathan Knotbristle: A Devil’s Parable & Guide for Witches offers an engaging, hands-on manual of old-style Witchcraft disguised in the creatively woven words of the Devil’s parable. Chris Allaun, drawing on his decades of experience in the study and practice of Witchcraft, utilizes storytelling to illustrate how a Witch could have found compact, and thus power, through communion with the figure known as the Devil. Each chapter is a new lesson told from the perspective of our main character, Johnathan Knotbristle, that he, in turn, learns from the Devil. The second part of the book is the actual grimoire that offers the reader step-by-step instructions for working the acts of magic referenced in part one. It includes workings to create the Devil’s Stang, methods of entering trance, instructions on spirit conjuration, and much, much more.

Follow in the footsteps of a coven of 1940s Witches as they dive deep into magical practice. Using the same storybook style of teaching magic that Chris Allaun introduced in his previous book, The Black Book of Johnathan Knotbristle, the reader will find an incredibly hands-on system of witchery designed to heighten your magical prowess and refine your skills in the Art. Each chapter is set up as a journal entry from a different member of the coven, and through each entry, the reader is shown how to weave spells to bring protection, reveal the truth, or even re-enter a dream. You'll also be shown how to conjure spirits, influence another's thoughts, and capture the heart of the one you love. It would be all too easy to see a coven such as this operating in the 1940s—meeting under the cloak of night, conversing with the spirit world, and conjuring a breadth of magic that could withstand the test of time. While the coven itself may dwell mostly in the mind and heart of the Witch, Chris Allaun has creatively incorporated actual folklore from Chicago, his now-hometown, which will go on to inspire all readers to build their own magical practice off their own living, breathing landscape, wherever that may be.
